Now that’s Eddie Murphy after a long time. Director Bret Rattner (speaking to the MTV(US)) said that he was not sure if Eddie Murphy “wanted to do it anymore” because it was not a lead role. Seems like Rattner wanted to make the Beverly Hills Cops 4, but instead they got on with this heist comedy about employees robbing a highrise!!

Tower Heist Poster

The movie stars Matthew Broderick, Ben Stiller, Casey Afleck along with the veteran comedy actor Murphy whom Rattner describes as a ” Genius”. Rattner also calls this one his ” best work” till date. Guess that just pumps up the expectations even more!!

Whether It stands up to the expectations is another matter. Tower Heist is releasing simultaneously with another well awaited comedy A very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmasand therefore it has enough to compete with.

What wins is the Tower Heist is a PG-13 movie and therefore has a much larger viewership to entertain. As the name suggests this is a typical heist movie where the memory of other hit heist movies like Mission Impossible or Ocean’s  series brings in most of the fun.

Nothing in the film is beyond guessing. This is a story of cheated workers who try to steal back 20 million in order to get even with their employer who stays in the The Tower. Ben Stiller works as the manager, who is nervous while following the plan, and this nervousness is the same nervous, yet sincere character that we have seen in the Night at the Museum. Along with him are others like Casey Afleck and Broderick who are annoyed and angry with the owner Alan Alda, for scamming with their hard-earned savings. In comes good criminal Murphy who knows exactly how this bunch of office-going educated guys can be transformed in to regular robbers. What follows is the goof-ups of regular guys trying to steal money.

Each person plays the role that we have already seen them playing, from Stiller to Murphy, each one is exactly the way we remember them. They form a group and then plans do don’t really work out and Murphy saves the day.

There is seriously nothing new as far as experimenting goes, and I guess this film will appeal to the generation who have grown up on the Beverly Hills Cops series, however to the generation who are not aware of it, this film might seem little confusing and unnecessary.

The film contains enough gags and laughs, and unimaginable action, that are possible only in action-comedies, with lot of yelling, screaming and fast talking!! However, this film will entertain. If one can just go to have a fun time with family and kids, Tower Heist wins over Harold and Kumar. This film is simple, funny and comfortable. you get to see exactly what you went to see, and that at times add greatly to films that depend on actor’s on-screen images.

Don’t expect too much from Tower Heist and probably then you might come back happy watching it.
