Ra-One poster

Ra..One (suspiciously sounds like RAVAN…who was a good man portrayed wrongly in an epic way) posters, links, songs, teasers are out. This is a long awaited movie, and we have been hearing its makings, finances, casts, who-is-playing-what, for ages now. Finally its here and something tells me, it will be the doom of legendary SRK.

Over the years, from as early as 1999-2000 Shah Rukh Khan has become more of a witty, obstinate businessman than simply an actor. Not blaming him. Most actors after a certain age, and films turn to other things. Even Akshaye Kumar turned producer ( of sorts..). Except Salman Khan may be. He is happy just Being Human after a long time. However, SRK was a clever businessman till Kolkata Knight Riders happened. He started Red Chillies Entertainment, under the name of Gauri Khan ( his wife…no need to write that really!!), which was aptly names for it produced movies which had everything ‘masala’ in it. That name must really have wounded Farah Khan, because in later years she proved that she deserved that name much much more for the movies she made.

Since then Red Chillies had made movies that made people happy. And Shah Rukh Khan became SRK.. the big guy of Bollywood cinema. Trouble is that in every interview Shah Rukh Khan gave, he seemed in a denial mode that one day, he might not remain the star he is. Probably he just says that; probably he really believes that; probably he is very scared of that day, but unfortunately a day like that will come, or may have already come. Kolkata Knight Riders was a loss in many ways. In spite of a good team, a good captain the performances were worrying. And in the meantime, he did movies like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and well cant remember.

I am a SRK fan, yet cannot really remember what was his last hit movie. Last major movie was My Name is Khan, which was a lost cause. It fared badly. Inspite of the legendary heart-warming Shah Rukh- Kajol pairing, NRI setting, okay songs and a big Karan Johar banner, it was bad. After that came mediocre hit, with better songs Yash Raj’s Rab Ne… It did alright in the b.o yet one expects outstanding hits from SRK simply because now we have Salman Khan who gives out one hit after other in a simply unexplainable manner, Amir Khan who ranges from sincere to pretentious with meaningful movies, Hrithik Roshan on pure good looks and Farhan Akhtar on I believe, in intelligence. Point is, there are lots of other players around. Even Ajay Devgan now gives out performances and hits one after the other. It seems SRK’s area is slowly norrowing up.

RA…One was and still is promising to be a high budget movie. Kareena Kapoor still is a crowd puller. Arjun Rampal has good presence. And trouble is that I am considering them. Gone are the days where I would be happy if just SRK was there. The songs have not made much mark. However now-a-days constant playing of the songs in music channels, makes them go in the head, and run like a wasted tape recorder. Kareena Kapoor is looking like she did for last two-three years, so nothing new there. The film promises to be high on graphics. I saw the trailers. The first one was good, pretty good. It gives you a feeling like Hollywood-days-are-here kinda thing. Second teaser onwards I think its going downwards. For SRK is not looking like a super hero, nor a Super Villain. He is looking like he does in all other movies.

Making this movie must have been difficult because this is following the Krissh ( Hrithik Roshan and shiny plastic outfit. Also Priyanka Chopra in orange and pink stuffs) which was, unfortunately a hit film. I believe technically this film will be better than Krissh, but the hit factor I am doubting.

I wish this to be a Hit, to see SRK remain SRK, but somehow it resembles a do-or-die attempt which if gone wrong will demand a lot from Red Chillis. Lets see, and hope we have a blockbuster coming.
