Everything about Moviez

Home > Coming Up Next > Hollywood Movie Calendar > Moviez in December (16th – 31st)

Movies releasing in December, towards the second half, include some pretty well-awaited names, namely Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol, Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and  The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

These are the big names in the upcoming Movies in December 2011, however there is the war drama from Disney War Horse and alien invasion story The Darkest Hour.

Iron Lady

Releasing on 16th December is the biographical drama about British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and her life and fight to stay in the male dominated world of politics The Iron Lady. The lead role in The Iron Lady is played by the 16 times Academy Award nominated Meryl Streep along with Jim Broadbent, Harry Llyod, Olivia Colman, and Anthony Head.

Release Dates: USA- 16th December, New Zealand: 26th December. Spain, UK and Netherlands will get to see The Iron Lady on 5th, 6th and 12th of January. Finland and Turkey will see The Iron Lady on 20th of January. Hungary, Sweden, Hong Kong and Portugal will have a dekko at this movie in February 2012, on 2nd, 3rd and 9th respectively.

MI 4

Releasing on 14th of December in France, 15th December in Australia, Hong Kong, Russia, Portugal, Singapore,  Thailand, Hungary and 16th of December in India, Estonia, Lithuania, Japan, Norway, USA and Armenia is the super awaited MI: 4 or Misssion Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

I cannot say if Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol  is a sure shot hit, but we are dying to see Tom Cruise after a long long time. All we do see of him now a days is his wife, her diets and their daughter. A movie therefore is a welcome change.

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol stars Tom Cruise, Josh Holloway, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner.

The Factory

Next in line is action thriller The Factory, starring John Cusack.  How this movie will fare at the box office is difficult to say, competing with big names like Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

The Factory is about a serial killer who kidnaps John Cusack’s daughter. The rest you can understand pretty much. Having said that, The factory has every chance to become a surprise hit like The Rise of The Planet of the Apes. Lets hope for the best. The Factory is releasing on 19th December.

The Adventures of Tintin

Just after this is the next big Walt Disney extravaganza, directed by iconic Steven Speilberg is The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.  This flick looks like it is going to be the next Shrek series, and there will be a series if Adventures of Tintin fares well at the B.O.

As much as the fans are going gaga over The Adventures of Tintin,  many are rather disappointed as Professor Cuthbert Calculus is missing in this film. Hope we will see the loveable eccentric scientist in the next issue.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn has already released in Europe, and is going to release in Greece, Hungary, Finland, Poland, Turkey on 3rd and 4th of November 2011. 10th November in Peru, Singapore, Thailand and Argentina, 11th November in India, 24th November in Hong Kong, 21st December in USA &  Canada. Finally on 2nd February in Brazil.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara and I have to say both of them look quite similar to the cast of the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film.

This film has already been a world wide hit, and I believe most people have seen it with subtitles. Well, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo can work at the BO, however, with the original film’s such popularity, it might not find audience at all.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is releasing in USA, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Norway & Sweden on 21st of December;  Singapore 22nd December and UK on 26th December. Hong Kong, Estonia, Bulgaria and India will get to watch this thriller on 5th and 6th of January.

After this detective/ thriller/mystery, comes the feel good family drama We Bought a Zoo. This film has the enviable star cast of Scarlett Johansson and  Matt Damon along with a few cute as button kids and even cuter animals.

We Bought A Zoo

We Bought a Zoo is the ultimate feel good/warm/cozy tale of a family’s struggle to restore a zoo, the animals and the changes in  life that they have together.  This story is supposed to a be a true tale but you can find it in a book by same name by Benjamin Mee.

We Bought A Zoo is releasing in HongKong Portugal and Singapore on 22nd of December, USA, UK, & Turkey on 23rd of December, Spain and Netherlands in 29th and 30th of December, Germany, Russia and Sweden on 26th and 27th January.

Coming up next is the love in the time of Bosnian war tale, called In The Land of Blood and Honey. This film stars Rade Serbedzija, Nikola Djuricko, Branko Djuric, Branko Djuric. If you do not recall who Rade Serbedzija is, well, then you should watch, Batman Begins again.

The movie as per the rumor goes has tried to show love against the pain and the horrors of war, therefore definitely for Mature Audiences.

However, this is a movie directed and written by Angelina Jolie, and is releasing on 23rd December only in USA.

War Horse

The young adult tale for the month of December is War Horse, directed by Steven Speilberg and starring Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson and David Thewlis, this is the story of a young man Albert and his horse Joey, who get separated during the world war 1. This movie, adapted from a theater play, promises loads of wonderful touching moments as Albert goes ahead to search for Joey in the war torn USA.

Releasing in USA  and Canada on 25th December, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore and Thailand 29th December;  Germany , France and UK on 5th, 11th and 13th January 2012, Portugal, Italy, Lithuania 19th 20th and 27th January.

The Darkest Hour

The Darkest Hour is the Sci-fi, horror genre film about a group of young guys tries to survive after an alien attack. The Darkest Hour is set in Russia and  stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby and Max Minghella in the lead roles and is directed by  Chris Gorak. The poster looks similar to the 11-11-11 movie releasing in November, however I am expecting something little better than the usual teen-alien-invasion movie

And with this strange horror cum sci-fi movie this year of 2011 ends. There are some very good movies coming next year January onwards. Hope You have managed to catch the best movies of this year, or if you have missed it, get a DVD and some popcorns. Hope you had a good year, and have a better year coming up.
