Everything about Moviez

Before I start, i want to say, that I like all Hindi films, and find something good in them, because a film is made with lot of things by a lot of people, so I kind of respect that.

This is a watchable film. That is what I after feel watching this film. The film has Akhshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, ( Who refused to be called Ash by the journos recently ) Om Puri, Kirron Kher, Randhir Kapoor (After a long time),Neha Dhupia ( why she was there..I dunno, I do not think even she does), Aditya Roy Kapur, Ranvijay (MTV ), Rajpal Yadav. Directed By Vipul Shah, this is as usual, a family film, fun, light and yes a much better story than Golmaal 3.

The story indeed is good ( and this is simply with refernce to Golmaal 3). It has its little unbelieveable portions but You can over look them. It is funny, not very funny, but funny in a light relaxing way. Some of the jokes you have heard before, however, Akhshaye Kumar manages really well. This is one of his better performances, Though I belive that he will not be remembered for this. His body language, is good, so is his comic timing. At the same time there were scenes where Akhshaye Kumar needed to look lost, helpless and nervous. These scenes too were done equally well. His colourful tee shirts, and bell bottomed trousers compliment him, though I do not know why he has to look silly in his long hair, which he does.

Aishwarya Rai on the other hand, sorry to say, looks old. After Robot this was surely a surprise. Also what does not work is her outfits. The film, extensively based on 70s, somehow doesnot work that way. The set, the Rajesh Khanna in Bombay Dyeing posters, old Cadbury advertisments, the set od Suryaprakash Bhojanalay, all look very much 70s, thanks to Aparna Raina. Even the junior artists, with plaits, flowers, bell bottoms look great. But somehow you wish you could see more of 70s mumbai, because the film is shot mostly in studio sets. You get a feeling that this is not the real 70s, rather this is 2010′s idea of what 70s used to be. Aishwarya Rai wears polka print saris, which is fine, but then she wears dresses which are so current in their fashion!

Some really nice parts are that the heroine is introduced by a song sequence, like it used to happen, her name is Mala, like it used to be, the Hero is Kishen. and the Villain is Kundan, you will remember the name Kundan was especially popular among villains at that time. And the final showdown in a song dance competition like in many Rishi Kapoor movies.

This is a story of a boy who runs away from marriage and wants to salvage his parents relationship by going back to the era of 70. This boy is Aditya Roy Kapur. He was in London Dreams, ( I did not notice him, but internet says he was, so He was), now in Action Replay, and coming up is Guzarish. For newcomer, it is a very good start. When you see him first , he seems to be a walking mass of hair, then after a few close ups and less of his hair, you notice that he is a good looking guy, and acts consistently well. He does not look overshadowed by the bigger stars and actually has the maximum role in this film. You will notice him when you watch the film.

Seeing Randhir Kapoor was nice, after a long time. Sudeepa Singh as Bunty’s girlfreind looks alright. Rajpal Yadav was probably the funniest is the film with his limited dialogue.

These are all good parts of the film. The bad sides are, That old age make up should have been lot better. Instead of old, the characters ended up looking patchy. The song Zor ka Jhatka was good, but not great, the others are worth forgetting. The songs ( by Pritam ) should have been better, as lot of the film promotion depends on it. Also the film was little too long. You would almost fidget in your seat thinking, when will it end. What actually has worked strongly against the film was the fact that Golmaal 3 was releasing with it. Without any super promotion and catchy songs , and a major release with it, the film failed. It has a great starcast but it did not have anything that catches the eye. Yes, there is the 70′s twist but Once Upon A Time in Mumbai had lot more 70′s as realistic location which this film strongly lacks. It is a little sad, for indeed Golmaal 3 is not that good a film, and Action Replay, is a good family film. Kids can watch it, and can understand it. It is funny, not hilarious and if you have nothing to do, you can take your kids along to watch it. Do not expect too much though.!!
